LEVEL: Entry Level

MODULE 1:
Skills Foundation Certificate (Basic Engineering Skills)
Learning outcomes
The aim of this module is to enable the candidate to:
1. carry safe working practices and procedures to ensure the safety of themselves,
2. other personnel and members of the public
3. identify metals and compare their properties
4. use hand tools and sheet metal cutting and folding equipment
5. use the offhand grinding machine and the fixed drilling machine
6. select and use temporary and permanent methods of joining materials
7. carry out oxy-acetylene gas cutting.

MODULE 2:
Skills Proficiency Certificate (Basic Fabrication, Welding and Pipework)
Learning outcomes
The aim of this module is to enable the candidate to:
1. maintain safe working conditions
2. mark out, cut to size, hole, bend and assemble, plate, sections of tube
3. develop patterns
4. lift and move loads, use scaffold platforms and ladders
5. join metal by soldering and welding
6. cut metal by the oxy-fuel gas process
7. carry out the inspection and testing of welds and identify possible causes of defects
8. produce pipelines and pipe branches
9. construct curves of intersection and surface developments
10. extract details from drawings and prepare working sketches.
